Adventures in home buying (2718 Guilford Ave.)

One of the things that I’ve been doing lately is trying to purchase a home. Originally, my fiancée and I were really interested in 2718 Guilford Ave. Baltimore MD. We thought we made a good bid, and it was accepted after its initial rejection. We were very excited about this home.
That was until we found out about all of the water in the basement. We learned a good deal about the problems with the way information is disclosed regarding the condition of property: it isn’t. Lesson learned: get a mold inspection and have them do the lab work. It is invaluable for your peace of mind. Yes, even after your home inspector and buyers agent suggest that you probably don’t need to. It was a finished basement and a new sump pump and trench drain was installed, to me this suggested that we proceed to double check this work and to confirm that we can use the basement as liveable space.
A mold inspection was worth the additional expense. To help demonstrate this point, here is our mold inspection for 2718 guilford ave. Rather different then the claim of a finished basement without any known mold problems.
Finally, we were able to part ways with the seller. It was clear they were not going to do the work, and they probably thought our bid was too low for the house. This was just one little part of our long rocky path to home ownership.
